A few scattered memories

img_0369.jpgWe had grilled octopus, something of a Greek speciality, as an appetizer last night. They also took me into the kitchen after I ordered fish to actually pick out the one fish I wanted them to grill. They showed me a half dozen sea bream, which looks kind of like a perch, and I picked one out. …. We’re driving a Range Rover rental now, but the car on Santorini was a tiny Renault, with virtually no trunk or rear end, just a second seat that ended at the back wall. I snapped awake at 4 a.m. on the day we were supposed to leave Santorini worried that we’d never get our luggage, and Will, in that car. I woke Courtenay, and she politely told me that it would work out, and to go back to sleep. She was right … We found an owl on the sidewalk last night, stunned, I think from flying into a window. …There’s a little rain this morning, Friday in Greece, and it smells like home…. We’re kind of hungry for news of home. It’s easy to talk back to us on this blog. Just put your cursor over the small comment button (usually they say “No comments”) after the headline on each blog entry, and hit enter. You’ll see a box to write in, and then hit submit when you’re done. We love and miss you.

  1. Stan has been planting additional garden. We now have onion, potatoes, peas, garlic, aspargus, leeks, radishes, & carrots. He also finished some new steps down to the garden, which by the way are fantastic. Trees and flowers are blooming and spring is showing it’s many colors. NCAA tournament new… Stan filled out a bracket and has so far has picked 14 out of the first 16 winners. He’s looking forward to watching the Ducks vs Mississippi State tonight (at least he’s hoping that’s the game they broadcast). Stan has been meeting with some people involved and will be volunteering some to in adding an addition to a Southside Youth Outreach Center. There are some really great people running it. Looks like Oregon’s votes may actually be meaningful in the primaries this time with the Democrat side still so undecided. Obama is visiting in Portland and Eugene today. The weather has been raining and then last night it got down to freezing in the valley, with 10 inches of snow in the mountains the other night. We’re really enjoying this technology that is allowing you to share a little of your trip with us. And by the way Courtenay, we are especially enjoying your details and descriptions. Our love to the three of you. Be safe and enjoy!

  2. Joyce,
Thanks for the update. I’m going to try to follow the Duck game on my computer over here. The technology is great for keeping in touch. It’s hard to believe the weather is still bringing more snow to the Oregon mountains — but at least it is getting on to garden sason. The outreach center sounds like a good project for dad. Thanks again for writing. See you soon.

    Love,
    Rick
